Do it your way

Your ceremony is a time where you can really be yourselves and express your vows in a way where you are having fun with your partner and loved ones but also being comfortable while you are getting married.

You can read your personal vows which I highly recommend rather than me whispering to you about what to say or you can decide to do the minimum legal requirement and have a moment with your promises before or after the ceremony.

Have your vows sound like you rather than copying a movie you saw a few years back or getting Chat GPT to do your work.

I understand that even if you know your family and friends really well you can still be very nervous to speak in front of them! Firstly pinpoint why you are feeling nervous and what you can do to overcome the nerves.

I recommend practising your vows prior to the wedding and have them written in advance. I am here to help you and have a chat if you need.

Before you start writing, nut out these two elements.

&

LENGTH

You don’t exactly need to keep to an exact word count between each other but a good place to start is to give yourselves a rough guide. For example, ‘no more than 15 sentences but no shorter than 7’, this becomes an easy way to start and think about what you would like included in your vows exactly.

The awkwardest thing would be having your partner spill their heart out explaining their unconditional love and you only had a 30 second bit to say - YIKES. It would be the worst feeling. Have a chat together, and figure out what length works for the both of you.

TONE

Now what and how you say your vows can set the tone for your wedding day. For example having 200+ guests in black tie attire that are conservative may not appreciate how it was going to be a one night stand and now you are getting married. However, at the same time you do want these vows to sound like the both of you, so try and find that happy medium.

Now I think having some funny’s in your vows is a must but have a chat together to find out how many jokes or silly stories will be appropriate for your wedding - please keep Nana Jill and her poor ol’ heart in mind!

VOW IDEAS

  • Private vows are a great option for couples that do not like to speak in front of a big crowd. I generally recommend to write your promises to each other and to read them together or separately before or after the ceremony. This way they can be completely cheeky, funny and fucking adorable. There will be a few legal words I would need you to say, but other than that you are all G my lovely!

  • Want your guests to actually do something rather than staring at you like a bunch of seagulls? This is where we get them involved and make it fun!

I will ask them a bunch of things and see what they agree to promise! This will have a few laughs and be memorable.

  • This one is pretty self explanatory and will need some prep time depending how good you are with making up some sick rhymes.

This will 1000% guarantee laughs, some light hearted embarrassment or the realisation that you are the next Ice Cube. (P.S - I’m not going to much help on this one soz).

  • Serious line, funny line, cutie patootie line and repeat as much as you both want! This is one I personally went with for my wedding. It is a great way to express your love and make some realistic vows.

For example I promised to love Jacob, promise to try, keep to tomato sauce in the pantry (should be in the fridge) and continue to make promises as the years go on.

  • Did you have a story where you had that realisation that this weird human is the love of your life? Lets hear it! Simply explain how that moment was the deciding factor and how because of that, you will forever love them.

No matter how silly or lovey dovey it is, it can be a perfect way to also capture how your relationship is.

  • This one is quite simple - you right what you heart tells you. It is a moment to be completely raw and write exactly how you feel about one another.

This is something that you might do the week before, because a song has triggered some lovey feels or because the dishes were done without asking.
